After a good night in the carpark in Dovercourt we woke to mist and decided
to set off early to explore Horsey Island. The first stop was Beaumont Quay
where we saw the cut and a great lime kiln :) Then on to Titchmarsh Marina
where we parked beside the resturant and had breakfast overlooking the
boats as the sun burnt the cloud away :) We then set off along the sea wall
toward Kirby on our bikes - the first section was very overgrown and little
used !!! The track improved on reaching the road across the marsh to Horsey
Island only passable at low water !!! We continued to Kirby Quay, which was
like stepping back to another time with thatched cottages and a wherry
moored up the creek !!! We continued along the sea wall past Honey Island
to a lovelly little jetty with rowing boats to access a two house island
opposite and the back through Birch Hall to the road and back to the
marina, knackered and just a little bit sun burnt !!! We then had a
fantastic carvey lunch and afters for under £20 outside overlooking the
boats. We then read our books and watched the boats leave at the end of the
marina and finished our fantastic couple of days away at the Tower at
Walton cliffs and decided to head home as could not face another day in the
saddle !!! We will be back as I want to sail around Horsey Island and get
some speedruns in too !!!
